OUR MISSION
Breaking Boundaries exists to make cricket more accessible, inclusive and inspiring for young people across Sussex.
We are building a county-wide network of State School Cricket Hubs that give children the opportunity to play, learn and develop in environments where cricket is visible, exciting and genuinely accessible.
Through professional coaching, improved facilities, teacher training and partnerships with local clubs, we are creating pathways that simply haven’t existed for many state school students before.
Our mission is not just to develop better cricketers, it’s to help develop more confident, resilient and connected young people.
WHY IT MATTERS
Cricket has the power to change lives. It teaches teamwork, discipline, leadership, communication and resilience. It creates friendships, builds confidence and gives young people a sense of belonging.
But access to cricket opportunities has not always been equal.
Despite the vast majority of children attending state schools, access to high-quality coaching, facilities and competitive opportunities often remains heavily weighted towards the independent sector. Breaking Boundaries was created to help change that landscape and ensure talent, passion and potential can thrive everywhere.
We believe every child should have the opportunity to discover the game — whether that leads to recreational participation, lifelong friendships or elite-level cricket.
BEYOND CRICKET
Breaking Boundaries is about much more than runs, wickets and results.
We believe sport can be a powerful vehicle for personal growth and social impact.
Through cricket, young people can develop confidence, self-esteem, resilience, empathy and leadership skills that stay with them long after they leave school.
The programme also aims to:
-
Strengthen links between schools and communities
-
Improve wellbeing and physical activity
-
Support social inclusion and accessibility
-
Inspire lifelong participation in sport
For some young people, Breaking Boundaries may unlock elite potential. For many others, it may simply provide a place to belong, grow in confidence and discover something they love.
Both outcomes matter equally.
